St. John’s has officially filled out its roster and landed a commitment from Hungarian forward Zsombor Maronka.

A 6-foot-10, 23-year-old forward, Maronka most recently suited up for Hamburg Towers, a club that competes in the Basketball Bundesliga, the top tier of the sport in Germany.

“Z is a knockdown shooter and terrific passer,” said head coach Rick Pitino. “At 6-10, he brings great length to our team.”

In 2025-26, Maronka appeared in 27 Bundesliga games with eight starts, averaging 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest. He shot 41.8% from the field and 36.8% from 3-point range on 4.3 attempts per game. Maronka reached double figures six times, highlighted by a season-high 24 points in a 111-108 win over Heidelberg on Dec. 21. He grabbed a season-high nine rebounds on two separate occasions,

The 23-year-old also competed in 13 EuroCup contests with Hamburg this past season, averaging 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Before joining Hamburg Towers, Maronka spent three seasons in Spain with Real Betis (2022-23) and Joventut Badalona (2020-22). He made 37 Liga ACB appearances over those stints, earning valuable experience in one of the world’s most competitive leagues.

In 2023-24, Maronka played for Neptunas Klaipeda in Lithuania’s top division, averaging 4.9 points and 2.1 rebounds over 28 games.

On the international stage, Maronka has been called up to the Hungarian Senior National Team on three separate occasions beginning in 2021. Most recently, Maronka was a mainstay for Hungary in its attempt to qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, averaging 10.5 points and 3.5 rebounds over four games. He scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting in a narrow loss to France on Feb. 27. In Hungary’s most recent game, an 85-70 win over Belgium on July 6, Maronka tallied 13 points and five boards.

Maronka will round out a Red Storm roster that is retooled and reloaded following a trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Johnnies swept the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament titles for the second straight year and eclipsed the 30-win mark for the second time in as many tries.

In addition to Maronka, the Red Storm have also added four other international players this offseason.

That list includes Quinn Ellis (Great Britain), Dordije Jovanovic (Montenegro), Lazar Stojkovic (Serbia) and Babacar Sane (Senegal).
