Will Wade and LSU are continuing their international-focused recruiting strategy as the Tigers get ready for Wade’s second stint with the program.
LSU has reportedly agreed to a $5 million deal with Israeli forward Yam Madar, who is a member of the Hapoel Tel Aviv program in Israel.
Madar, who’s set to turn 26 in December, was drafted with the 47th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, but never signed with the team.
“He was drafted in 2020 by Boston,” one NBA scout said. “They have his draft rights still I think.
“He’s like an average sized at best point guard. Kind of like a solid ball handler but doesn’t shoot it great…makes the open ones.”
The 6-foot-3 guard from Israel has been playing professional basketball since 2018 and was named the 2023 EuroLeague Rising Star.
In addition to his professional career in Israel, Madar has also spent parts of three seasons playing professional basketball in Serbia, Turkey and Germany.
For Hapoel Tel Aviv in IBSL play this season, Madar averaged 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in 16 appearances for the team.
With LSU’s addition of Madar, LSU has now landed five additions this offseason.
In addition to Madar, the Tigers have landed Kansas State transfer Abdi Bashir Jr., Michigan State transfer Divine Ugochukwu, Kentucky transfer Mouhamed Dioubate and Brazilian forward Marcio Santos.
