Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic is the top remaining player in the transfer portal and has drawn heavy interest from Kentucky, St. John’s and Louisville since departing the Cyclones this spring, according to CBSSports’ Isaac Trotter. As he goes through the NBA Draft process and this week’s combine in Chicago, Momcilovic was asked about the potential he remains in the draft or returns to college.
“I’m still focused on the draft,” he said Wednesday. “I haven’t even talked to any colleges yet. I’m sure if I do go back, there’s a spot open for me somewhere.
Momcilovic said his decision hinges on how NBA teams view him as a prospect, and if he’s a first-rounder instead of a second-rounder, since first-round picks are met with guaranteed contracts in the NBA.
“If there’s guaranteed contracts, that’ll be good,” Momcilovic said. “If it’s the later second round, those are usually two-way contracts, so then I’ll probably go back (to college). I want to go to the NBA, that’s the goal. I want to go this year.”
With the Johnnies as one of the teams most heavily interested in the sharpshooter, should he return to college, he’ll quickly become one of the most elite scorers in the country, once again.
Rick Pitino and St. John’s have made multiple additions from the international ranks, but have been cited as a program looking to add one more impact player, which Momcilovic fits the criteria of, as the top-ranked uncommitted transfer.
Momcilovic and other draft prospects eligible to return to college have until Wednesday, May 27th to make the decision about their futures.
