Alabama guard Aden Holloway has been “removed from campus” following his arrest on charges of marijuana possession on Monday. Holloway is averaging 16.8 points per game this season and is the Tide’s second-leading scorer.

He was arrested on charges of first degree possession of marijuana, which is a felony in Alabama and was released on bond late Monday morning.

The school released a statement about Holloway’s situation on Monday,

“The University is aware of the allegations and is working to gather more information.  The student has been removed from campus pending further investigation by the UA Office of Student Conduct.”

Alabama head coach Nate Oats spoke on his weekly “Hey Coach” radio show about the situation that transpired Monday.

“Look, we’ve got standards in our program,” he said. “We’ve got ways we’ve held our guys accountable. We try to keep everything in-house. Obviously some of the situations you can’t. This is one of those. Situation is a little different when we found out what was going on this morning — I found out this morning. I guess it all went down this morning. We had to suspend him pending the investigation by the UA office of student conduct. We’re disappointed in his behavior. With that said, we still love him. He’s still our guy. We’re going to get him the help that he needs. … We’re preparing to play without him this weekend.”

The team hasn’t announced Holloway’s status for its NCAA Tournament game against Hofstra on Friday,.

Holloway is in his second season with the Tide and has started in 27 of his 28 appearances this season.
