Potential top-pick Darryn Peterson likely played his final game at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday, leading Kansas past its in-state rival, Kansas State. Peterson recorded 27 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Jayhawks in the win.
While he has dealt with a plethora of injury concerns this season, most notably from cramping, Peterson has dealt with widespread criticism and noise about his dedication to the program. Postgame, he talked about how much love he has for the community and program at Kansas.
“I love Kansas, I love everything about being here and my team,” Peterson told reporters.
During the press conference, Peterson’s teammate, Melvin Council Jr. was lightly chanting “One more year!,” as Peterson and many other draft prospects near this spring’s pre-draft process.
Peterson responded with a similar idea as BYU’s AJ Dybantsa had about his future at the school.
“Maybe one more year. I might run it back,” he said with a smile.
Kansas finished the regular season 22-9 and now awaits some results across the Big 12 to determine its seeding in next week’s Big 12 tournament. The Jayhawks have already clinched a double-bye in the tournament, regardless of the remaining results.
