Louisville landed a commitment from former Maine Celtics and Cleveland Charge guard London Johnson, ON3’s Joe Tipton announced on Monday. Johnson is a 6-foot-3 guard from Norcross, Georgia and was originally a four-star recruit in the class of 2023. He is expected to have two years of eligibility.
He earned offers from schools like Georgia, Virginia, NC State, Clemson, USC and Alabama before signing a two-year deal with the G-League Ignite on October 3, 2022. Johnson spent two seasons with the team, playing in 55 games and averaging 10.5 points per game.
Rather than declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft, Johnson was selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 G-League Draft by the Maine Celtics, the G-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics. He appeared in three games for the Maine Celtics, averaging 2.3 points per game and making one start.
Johnson was acquired by the Cleveland Charge on January 15, but was later waived on January 23 before making an appearance.
He is officially the second G-League player to receive NCAA eligibility and commit to a college program after making their professional debut. Johnson joins Santa Clara commit Thierry Darlan on the short list of players to take this path. Darlan spent parts of three seasons with the G-League Ignite, the Delaware Blue Coats and the Rip City Remix, before committing to Santa Clara in September.
Johnson will be a member of Louisville’s 2026 recruiting class and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
