Buzz Williams has secured his first five-star recruit with Maryland, less than a month after being hired.
Five-star prospect Darius Adams will play for the Terrapins next season, he announced on his Instagram on Tuesday.
The McDonald’s All-American guard had originally committed to UConn but decommitted from the program on April 19.
As a 6-foot-5 guard out of New Jersey, Adams has shown versatility and skill at the position as an elite shooter with the ability to play both guard spots but his preference is to play the point.
“Darius is a three-level scorer with some of the best shot-making ability in the class,” PSA Cardinals coach Casey Williams said when Adams committed to UConn. “His will to win and leadership is contagious which will allow him to contribute day one in college!”
Said La Lumiere coach Pat Holmes: “Darius is a gifted scorer that brings toughness and competitiveness to any program he is a part of. Darius uses his scoring ability to set up teammates, and he has consistently shown that he will make the right play when the ball is in his hands. Defensively Darius loves to compete and show that he can be a high level defender as he continues to grow.”
He now becomes the sole member of Maryland’s 2025 recruiting class as Williams looks to retool a roster that made an appearance in this year’s Sweet 16.
They will be losing high-profile freshman Derik Queen to the 2025 NBA Draft, but will be replacing him with one of the top recruits still available in the 2025 recruiting class.
