The win may have been in doubt for most of the night for Tom Izzo’s squad, but No. 11 Michigan State secured the come-from-behind victory which crowned Izzo the winningest coach in Big Ten basketball history.

Izzo secured the number one spot with a 79-65 win over Illinois after a difficult stretch of basketball for the Spartans. Michigan State came into this game after losing three of its last four but a career-high 23 points for Jaxon Kohler proved to be enough to secure this historic moment.

“It’s a great honor it’s a great privilege to be in with some of the people, I think my SID told me that there’s five coaches that were at the same school that had over 350 wins,” Izzo commented on his radio show on Monday. “I personally was a Bob fan I think he did a lot more good than bad even though he got painted a little evil at the end.”

Now that the celebration is over the Spartans have a difficult schedule to look forward to with their next four games being against ranked opponents.
