No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Duke go down, opening the door for Alabama
BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ
Two titans of college basketball went down Saturday night and No. 3 Alabama could be poised to become the new No. 1 team in the land.
No. 1 Auburn fell to No. 6 Florida, 90-81, snapping their 14-game winning streak and marking the second time Florida has taken down the top-anked team. The Gators beat Tennessee by 30 points last month.
This was Auburn’s first loss in the SEC this season.
The door then opened for No. 2 Duke to secure the top spot with a win against Clemson but they fell short, 77-71, snapping Duke’s 16-game win streak. Cooper Flagg, the presumed No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft, hit two huge 3-pointers late to keep Duke in it, but ended up slipping on perspiration on the floor down the stretch as Duke could not come back.
The Clemson fans stormed the court after the upset.
