Kanon Catchings, a four star in the class of 2024, has requested and been released from his Purdue national letter of intent, reopening his recruitment ahead of his freshman campaign, according to multiple reports.
The 6-foot-9 forward out of Overtime Elite and native of Brownsburg (IN.) originally committed to Purdue in 2022 and signed his NLI this past November.
On June 20, Purdue coach Matt Painter elaborated on what went down with the decommitment.
Catchings had interest from Indiana, Illinois and Michigan State, among others, before choosing the Boilermakers. Catchings was one of six incoming freshman in Purdue’s class of 2024 which now includes USA Basketball standout Daniel Jacobsen, four-star Gicarri Harris and three-stars Raleigh Burgess, CJ Cox and Jack Benter. Went back the next day and said everything was good and it was just like, nah, it’s probably better if we part ways….We wish him good luck and hope everything works for him.”
