Eric Musselman has added a fourth player from the transfer portal in two weeks since becoming the new head coach of USC. Former Yale forward Matt Knowling committed to the Trojans on Saturday, his agent Daniel Poneman confirmed to ZAGSBLOG, bringing in another new face to USC.

“I am excited to play for Coach Musselman and compete every day for such a great program,” Knowling told ZAGSBLOG. “After visiting, it was clear this was the perfect place for me to develop as a basketball player and person. I will bring versatility offensively and defensively, high IQ, and a will to win.”

Knowling, the 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward from Ellington (CT), averaged 11.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Bulldogs last season while starting in all but two games. Over his two-year career at Yale, he’s posted averages of 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 59.8% from the floor and 27.8% from 3-point range. Knowling did not play in his freshman 2020-21 season due to COVID.

The forward is ranked the No. 158 overall player in the transfer portal per Evan Miya, giving him four-star transfer status. In high school, Knowling the was 2020 Connecticut Player of the Year at East Catholic High School and played AAU for the Middlesex Magic, which won an HGSL Championship.

Knowling will join three other portal additions — former UMass center Josh Cohen, former Penn point guard Clark Slajchert and former UC San Diego point guard Bryce Pope — on Musselman’s 2024-25 USC roster.
