Cal head coach Mark Madsen has had a productive Saturday morning, landing two players out of the transfer portal. First, UTSA transfer guard Christian Tucker announced his commitment, then an hour later, Minnesota transfer forward Joshua Ola-Joseph pledged to the Golden Bears.

Tucker, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard from Chandler (AZ), averaged 11.3 points, 5.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds last season for USTA. He started in every game but one and shot 31-for-102 (30.4%) from 3. Ola-Joseph is a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward from Brooklyn Park (MN). He’s averaged 7.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 57.3% from the field in two seasons at Minnesota.

Tucker was born in Los Angeles but played high school basketball at Gilbert Perry High School (AZ). His father, Kevin, played basketball at Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon. Tucker is ranked the No. 577 overall player in the transfer portal per Evan Miya, which makes him a three-star.

Ola-Joseph played high school basketball for Osseo High School (MN) before transferring to Compass Prep (AZ). The three-star high school prospect played AAU ball for D1 Minnesota’s AAU program. He is ranked the No. 299 player in the transfer portal per Evan Miya, also giving him three-star status.

Madsen and Cal have had a lot of roster movement this offseason in the portal. Tucker, Ola-Joseph, former North Dakota small forward BJ Omot and former Vanderbilt center Lee Dort have all transferred in. Concurrently, several players from last year’s roster are in the portal including guard Rodney Brown (committed to Virginia Tech), guards Devin Askew and Jalen Celestine, small forward Monty Bowser, and power forwards ND Okafor and Grant Newell.
