Merrimack transfer Jordan Derkack has committed to Rutgers, he announced Tuesday.

The New Jersey native was the NEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game on 46.6% shooting.

He chose the Scarlet Knights over Seton Hall and Penn State.

“I think he brings some Jersey toughness and an edge that Coach [Steve] Pikiell’s teams are known for,” Merrimack head coach Joe Gallo told ZAGSBLOG. “He won a lot of games here, [he] brings some winning and a championship pedigree.”

Derkack joins seven other newcomers to Piscataway. Rutgers has picked up transfer commitments from former Eastern Michigan guard Tyson Acuff and Princeton sharpshooter Zach Martini. The Knights will also bring in top high school seniors Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, alongside three-stars Lathan Sommerville, Bryce Dortch and Dylan Grant.
