Iona junior guard Greg Gordon has decided to leave the program for personal reasons, per the school.

This is a big blow for the Gaels, as Gordon was their leading scorer at 16.0 points per game. The 6-foot-5 junior from Chicago also leads Iona in rebounds per game (7.3) and FG% (54.8%).

Iona currently sits at 13-12 overall and 8-6 in the MAAC, good for sixth place. The Gaels will need to win the MAAC tournament to secure an NCAA Tournament berth in the first year under Tobin Anderson.

Anderson took FDU to the NCAA Tournament last season and upset No. 1-seeded Purdue for the second ever win for a No. 16 seed in tournament history. Iona was also in the NCAA Tournament last season under Rick Pitino and lost in the first round to eventual national champion UConn. Iona is just 1-16 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with the lone win coming in 1980.

It will be a hard road back to the tournament for both Anderson and Iona without Gordon.
