Duane Thompson, a 6-foot-8 forward from Putnam Science (CT), has reclassified to 2023 and signed with St. Bonaventure.

He also held offers for 2024 from Seton Hall, Virginia Tech, George Mason, George, Washington, UMass, FIU and Fairfield.

“Duane is a program kid,” Putnam Science assistant Josh Scraba told ZAGSBLOG. “The hallway, the dorm, practice, film, whatever it is his energy is on another level.

“He’s tough. He’s physical and he’s a legit 6’8 scorer. In 2024 he ends up with 10+ high major options. He made a great choice going in 2023 to play for a great coach that’s going to put him in every position to be successful on the court right away.”

This past season, Thompson helped guide Putnam to its fourth national prep championship following a 39-3 season. He was ranked as the 10th-best 2024 prospect in New England by the New England Recruiting Report prior to reclassifying.

“We are really excited about Duane’s decision to join the Bonnies,” St. Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt said. “Duane is an athletic, long wing who has a ton of upside. He can score the basketball and make an impact in a lot of different ways on the court. Duane also knows how to win, winning a national prep championship last season with Putnam Science Academy. He was really well coached and will be well prepared for the college level because of his experience at PSA. We expect Duane to make an impact with the Bonnies next season.”

He averaged seven points, three assists and two steals while shooting over 48 percent from the floor in 15 minutes per game as the Mustangs finished the season on a 21-game winning streak.

He joins transfer center Noel Brown and transfer guard Charles Pride and incoming freshman guard Miles Rose as three newcomers committed to the program for this upcoming season.
