NJIT coach Grant Billmeier landed a pair of Manhattan transfers on Friday.
Elijah Buchanan, a 6-foot-5 senior guard, and Daniel Schreier, a 6-9 senior forward, are both headed to NJIT, where former Manhattan coach RaShawn Stores is now an assistant.
Buchanan averaged 11.0 points and 5.2 rebounds last season for the Jaspers.
“I picked NJIT because coach Grant made me feel welcomed like I’m at home and I already told coach Stores wherever he goes I’m sticking right by him,” he said.
“My skill set is locking down the best player on each and every team we play against. I focus more on the defensive end than anything.”
Schreier averaged 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds.
“I picked NJIT because I felt that I needed a fresh start and also because of my love for RaShawn Stores and the belief he has in me as well as coach Billmeier’s vision for the program,” he said. “I’m gonna be a strong and skilled body for this team and someone who can bring toughness.”
They join Class of 2023 forward Jeffrey Akintolu and guard Jake Goldberg among NJIT’s newcomers.
During his introductory press conference, Billmeier said he would target a mix of high school recruits and transfers after taking over a roster with just six players.
“I’m not promising you we’re going to win championships,” he said. “But I’m promising you there will never be a team more prepared.”
