Rick Pitino on the Maryland job: ‘It will not be me’
By ADAM ZAGORIA
Amid reports that Maryland is targeting Rick Pitino as its next coach, the Naismith Hall of Famer shot down those rumblings on Thursday.
The University of Maryland is one of the premier institutions of higher learning. It's basketball program can be among the nation’s best. I hope they find the next great Gary Williams. I love coaching at Iona, and I’m totally committed to my players. It will not be me.
As I Tweeted out Wednesday, Pitino is quite happy at Iona where he lives nearby on the Winged Foot Golf Club.
Iona is working on a lifetime deal for him as we previously reported.
Anything is possible but in talking to Rick Pitino I wouldn’t expect him leave @IonaGaelsMBB for @umterps
