Villanova announced the signing of a trio of prep standouts to national letters of intent. Guards Mark Armstrong (South Orange, N.J.) and Brendan Hausen (Amarillo, Tex.) along with forward Cam Whitmore (Severn, Md.) are set to join the Wildcats in the fall of 2022.

“We’re excited to welcome Mark, Brendan and Cam to the Villanova family,” stated Wildcats’ head coach Jay Wright.

Armstrong, 6-2, is an elite guard from St. Peter’s (N.J.) Prep who made a verbal pledge to Villanova in April 2021. In a 2020-21 campaign limited to 11 games due to COVID-19, Armstrong averaged 14.1 points per game and moved past the 1,000 point plateau in January. His is listed at No. 42 in the Class of 2022 by rivals.com.

“Mark is part of a wonderful family that we’re happy to welcome to Villanova,” stated Wright. “As a consummate point guard, Mark really understands how to run a team. He makes everyone on the team around him better. We believe he has what it takes to become a great Villanova guard.”

Hausen, 6-4, is best known for his shooting accuracy. The Texan is listed at No. 39 in the Class of 2022 by rivals.com after a strong junior season. As a junior he averaged 17.6 points per game, which included 90 3-pointers. He is Amarillo High School’s all-time leading scorer and gave his verbal commitment to Villanova in September.

“Brendan is a pure shooter, tough competitor, and proven winner,” stated Wright. “As we got to know Brendan and his great family through the recruiting process, we saw a young man who brings all the qualities we value in a Villanova Basketball player. We’re fired up to have Brendan at Villanova.”

Whitmore, 6-6, attends Archbishop Spalding High School in Maryland, the alma mater of former Wildcat Derrick Snowden (2000-04). This forward checks in at No. 22 in the rivals.com national rankings of the class of 2022 after earning Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year honors in 2020-21. He averaged 22.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest as a junior and committed to the Wildcats in September.

“Cam comes from a wonderful family that we have enjoyed getting to know,” Wright stated. “Cam really fits Villanova. On the court, he has the skills and talent to become a complete player who does everything well. We’re extremely excited to welcome Cam to the Villanova Basketball Family.”
