Nigerian big Iffy Ufochukwu is starting to pick up some high-major interest as schools have tuned in via live stream.

The 6-foot-10, 215-pound center from Covenant Day (NC) School, says that Georgia, Virginia Tech, Oregon, East Carolina, Auburn, Texas A&M, Davidson and Elon are among the schools to show interest.

“They’ve called to talk about their school and the students,” he said by phone Sunday evening. “Sometimes they’ll call and watch me play and sometimes they’ll call to check up on me.”

Ranked as the No. 15 center in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports.com, Ufochukwu began playing basketball three years ago in Nigeria.

He says the level of competition has been much greater in the United States.

“It has been a huge difference in terms of basketball, but I’m glad I’m getting the hang of it now,” he said. “Back home in Nigeria, we didn’t really play competitively. Obviously the United States is the best for competitive basketball.”

Ufochukwu describes himself as a player that can take jumps shots, but also play inside.

“I’m working on developing my post moves,” Ufochukwu said. “I’m working with a trainer here every day.”

According to 247Sports.com, Ufochukwu is ranked as the No. 2 player from the state of North Carolina and the No. 113 overall player in the Class of 2022.
