Entering his sophomore year, combo guard Carl Cherenfant is starting to emerge as a high-major prospect in the Class of 2023.

Cherenfant, the 6-foot-4, 170-pound wing from Calvary Christian (FL) Academy, picked up his second offer from LSU on Friday.

“I watch a lot of college basketball and I’ve watched LSU. They just play hard,” he told ZAGSBLOG by phone Saturday. “I love the way Will Wade coaches. It’s definitely a school I’m looking forward to building a relationship with in the future.”

Western Kentucky was the first school to offer Cherenfant back in April.

“My coaches have a great relationship with some of their coaching staff,” he said. “Their pitch has been just for me to keep working and building a relationship with them. Also, for us to keep growing together.”

Cherenfant has also received interest from Florida, Florida Atlantic and Miami.

“As of right now, I don’t have any visits or anything set, but I plan to take them next year,” Cherenfant said. “When I’m able to start taking official visits, I plan on taking all five.”

Cherenfant mentioned Florida as the one school he wants to visit when he’s able to.

“It’s just the hometown school,” he said. “The hometown feeling, you can’t shake. That’s basically what it is. I love the way they play.”

When evaluating his options, Cherenfant says he’s paying close attention to style of play.

“How hard do they play and how do they play?” he said. “Is it a fast-paced team or do they like to play in the half-court? Is it more a guard or big man oriented team? How many pros have come from there?”

As a freshman during the 2019-20 season, Cherenfant averaged 6.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 25 games played.

Entering his sophomore season, Cherenfant expects to make big strides this winter.

“I expect my recruitment to pick up heavy starting this high school season because I’m going to be playing on a national team with a national schedule,” he said. “I expect my name to be out there even more.”

In terms of his game, Cherenfant describes himself as a ‘downhill scorer that likes getting to the basket’.

“I’m a great defender and I block shots,” he said. “I bring energy and just play hard.”

Cherenfant was set to play with Florida Pro on the Nike EYBL circuit before Nike canceled the remainder of the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

“I haven’t been able to play at all, but I’ve been working out 2-3 times per day,” he said. “I’ve been active. I’m just getting better and getting ready for this high school season coming up.”

Outside of basketball, Cherenfant is just like any other high schooler, reading books, watching Netflix and playing video games.

“I’ve been watching a lot of Vampire Diaries and Queen of the South,” he said.
