Memphis freshman forward D.J. Jeffries suffered a partially torn posterior ligament and is expected to miss four to six weeks, per the Associated Press.
This season, Jeffries has averaged 10.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He is averaging over 27 minutes per game.
The injury prevented Jeffries from playing in a 70-63 victory over Connecticut on Saturday.
Jeffries had already missed one game this season against Georgia with the flu in a Memphis loss.
That timetable puts Jeffries’ availability for the rest of the regular season in doubt. Memphis (16-5, 5-3 AAC) closes the regular season March 8 at No. 21 Houston.
Memphis is already without James Wiseman, who played only three games for the Tigers before leaving school to prepare for the NBA draft. Wiseman was in the midst of a 12-game suspension.
Freshman guard Lester Quinones Jr. missed five games because of a broken hand earlier this season.
