NEWARK — Precious Achiuwa is only a sophomore at St. Benedict’s Prep, but he is already drawing comparisons to NBA players.

“He’s Rudy Gay,” one college assistant told me recently of the 6-foot-7 Achiuwa.

The younger brother of former St. John’s big man God’sgift Achiuwa, Precious has guard skills in a body that could grow to 6-10 or more.

Achiuwa, who runs with the New Heights AAU program, holds offers from St. John’s, Seton Hall and VCU, but that list should only grow going forward. Coaches from Miami, Indiana and Syracuse are all expected into St. Benedict’s this week.

“He’s super-athletic,” St. Benedict’s coach Mark Taylor said. “He’s just learning to play the wing and is growing very quickly. His skill level handling and shooting is really improving. By the time he’s a senior he is going to be sought after by everyone. I love his attitude and work ethic. He is a pro.”
