Andrew White, a graduate transfer from Nebraska, will play for Syracuse next season as a fifth-year player. Josh Mathews of Virginia-based RVAgamebreak.com first reported the news, according to Syracuse.com

White, a 6-for-6 guard from Richmond, Va., had considered Michigan State, Miami and Virginia Commonwealth.

White made 41 percent of his 3-point shots last season, making 87 of 211 attempts. He averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 assists a game and should help replace Malachi Richardson, who was a one-and-done out of Syracuse after leading the Orange to the Final Four.

“After following them growing up, after having a relationship with a hometown friend Michael Gbinije and getting to know the staff and the people here, I thought it would be a good opportunity to come in and have a chance to win at the highest stage. That was exciting to me,” White told CuseNation.com.

    Syracuse begins classes Monday.

White told CuseNation he is embracing the program’s always-high expectations. “When you come to a program like that, those are always the expectations,” White said. “This is a huge fan base. A lot of people are invested in it here. My job is just to go out and try to exceed expectations. Give all that I can so that we can be on that platform.

“You never want to make guarantees, but I’m confident in my work ethic. “I’m confident of the other pieces on this team. I think it could be a special season if we can mesh it together and peak at the right time. So I definitely think there’s some potential there for all of the fan base’s expectations.”

White also announced the news on Twitter.
