Rutgers landed former UNCW red-shirt junior C.J. Gettys when he committed during a visit on Monday, he told SNY.tv.

The 7-foot, 280-pound Gettys will be immediately eligible for coach Steve Pikiell’s club in 2016-17. He also considered Purdue, Dayton and Tennessee-Chattanooga.

“[Rutgers] is a great opportunity to help turn the program around by coming in with a new and experienced coaching staff,” he said.

He started 15 games this past season, averaging 5.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

UNCW tied a school record with its 25-8 record in 2015-16, losing to Duke in the NCAA Tournament.

Gettys joins fellow newcomers Matt Bullock, Eugene Omoruyi, Candido Sa and Issa Thiem.
