Cincinnati Lands Sacred Heart Transfer Cane Broome; Creighton Gets Syracuse Transfer Kaleb Joseph

Cincinnati has landed a pledge from Sacred Heart transfer Cane Broome, who will sit out the 2016-17 season and then have two to play.

The 6-foot sophomore from East Hartford, Conn., chose the Bearcats over Creighton.

“The program is an elite program and everyone should want to push themselves and not only play for a program like this but want to be a good player here and that’s what I talked about with the coaches,” he said by text. “I loved the way the guys work and I wanted to be around people like that. They work really hard, and I think that’s why they win so much. Everyone their has a chip on their shoulder. They play with passion, heart and they always fight. Broome became the first player in Sacred Heart history to win Northeast Conference Player of the Year honors after averaging 23.1 points per game, breaking SHU’s Division I scoring average record. His 1,157 points led all active sophomores in the country, and he was the leading active scorer in the conference.

Cincinnati also adds wing guard Jarron Cumberland and center Nysier Brooks in 2016, while power forward Kyle Washington becomes eligible after transferring from N.C. State.

 

CREIGHTON ADDS SYRACUSE TRANSFER KALEB JOSEPH

Creighton added Syracuse transfer Kaleb Joseph.

“It’s a high-level league [the Big East], which he wanted,” Cushing Academy coach Barry Connors told SNY.tv. “He liked the style of play and he feels he will be able to play right away and fit in.”

The 6-foot-3 sophomore will sit out 2016-17 and then have two years of eligibility remaining.

After falling behind Michael Gbinije and Franklin Howard at Syracuse, he averaged less than 1 point, 1 rebound and 1 assist for the Orange, who reached the Final Four before losing to North Carolina.

Creighton also adds 6-3 Kansas State transfer Marcus Foster, 6-11 redshirt center Justin Patton and incoming point guard Davion Mintz.
