Georgia Tech named former Memphis coach Josh Pastner its new head coach on Friday.

Pastner, 38, has coached Memphis for the past seven seasons, compiling a record of 167-73 and averaging more than 24 wins per year. He led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament in four of his seven seasons, but failed to do so the last two years, with a combined record of 37-29 over that time.

Gary Parish of CBS Sports reported that the deal was done after the $10.6 million buyout in Pastner’s Memphis contract was an initial hold up.

Georgia Tech finished 21-15 last season and 8-10 in ACC play, good for an NIT invite and a 10th place finish in the conference.

Meantime, onetime Memphis commit Charlie Moore opened up his recruitment after the news. The 6-foot point guard initially chose Memphis over Cal and VCU.

“I’m back to square one,” Moore told the Chicago Tribune. “He had to do what is best for him and his family, so I can’t complain. I’m just taking it in stride. I don’t have a timeframe yet.”
