mbb033115Junior college star Bashir Ahmed is poised for his official visit to St. John’s this weekend following a trip to Cincinnati last weekend.

His visit to St. John’s will coincide with the school’s Dribble for the Cure event at 10 a.m. on Saturday as part of University Service Day on the St. John’s Queens campus.

The fundraising and awareness event has raised more than $155,000 for pediatric cancer research to-date.

“The visit was great, I enjoyed my weekend at Cincinnati,” he told SNY.tv. “The coaches was great and so were the players. I felt very comfortable. The players and coaches made me feel like I was apart of their team.

“It was a good environment. They have diversity with all kinds of cultures. I sat down and watched their practice and it was great. I think my style of play fits their system.”

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound combo guard from The Bronx cancelled a recent visit to Rutgers and will also visit Louisville. Meantime, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino was due in to see Ahmed Wednesday.

“All three of those schools are recruiting me hard right now,” he said recently. “They’re recruiting me very hard. They’re showing a lot of effort, talking to my brothers.”

Ahmed took unofficials to both Rutgers and St. John’s back in May.

A onetime Iona commit who will be eligible in 2016, Ahmed was named a NJCAA All-American last season at Hutchinson.

Ahmed finished with 585 points, the sixth-most points scored by a true Blue Dragon freshman in team history. His 16.3 point scoring average tied for ninth best by a Hutchinson freshman.

“I’m going to bring versatility, I’m going to bring toughness,” he said. “I’m going to defend on the court and I’m going to score from the perimeter on the floor.

“Most important I have heart. I’m going to bring that toughness to the team. A team always needs toughness.”
