Harrell, Looney, Turner Among Finalists for Karl Malone Award
Louisville junior Montrezl Harrell, UCLA freshman Kevon Looney and Texas freshman Myles Turner were among those named among the 16 watch list candidates for the 2015 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday.
Named after Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, the annual honor in its inaugural year recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men’s basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel has determined the initial 16-player watch list.
By early March, the current list of 16 finalists for the Karl Malone Award will be narrowed to five players. The final five players in contention for the award will be presented to Mr. Malone and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee. The winner will be presented at ESPN’s new College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy’s from Club Nokia in Los Angeles on Friday, April 10. The awards show will be nationally televised on ESPN2 at 5 p.m. (PT).
