Corey Johnson has committed to Harvard.
The 6-foot-5 senior guard from Vermont Academy (Ver.) chose the Crimson over Butler.
“Tommy Amaker and Christian Webster (Harvard assistant coach) did a fantastic job recruiting Corey,” Vermont Academy Head Coach Alex Popp told SNY.tv. “In addition, Corey played on the Canadian U-18 team with Chris Egi. The two are close friends.”
Johnson could possibly fill the void that has been left by Crimson sharpshooter Laurent Rivard.
“Corey is 6-foot-5 without shoes and he has a 6-foot-10 wingspan,” Popp said. “He has an incredibly fluid jump shot with a text book release, and this often distracts people from the rest of his game.”
Popp says he believes that Johnson brings much more than just jump shooting to the table.
“He is way more than a shooter, he is dynamic off of the bounce, and is also a great decision maker,” Popp said. “He is tougher than people think. He rebounds well in traffic. He is also a high level leader, the definition of a coach on the floor.”
LUKE MAYE COMMITS TO UNC
Luke Maye, a 6-foot-7, 230 pound power forward has committed to the Tar Heels.
A top 150 player in the nation, Maye will walk on his freshman year in Chapel Hill, but will receive a scholarship for the remaining years, according to Lake Norman Citizen reporter Justin Parker.
Maye averaged 17.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game on the EYBL Circuit for Team United.
Maye’s father Mark played quarterback for the Tar Heels in the mid-1980s.
Maye is the first commit for the Tar Heels in the class of 2015.
