Mitchell LouisvilleDonovan Mitchell is a future Louisville Cardinal.

Less than a week after cutting his list to five schools, the 6-foot-3 guard from Brewster (N.H.) Academy pulled the trigger for Louisville Thursday while on his official visit.

“Louisville First – Cardinals Forever!! Let’s bring that national championship back to #CardNation #Louisville,” he Tweeted.

Evan Daniels of Scout.com previously reported the news.

Mitchell had recently narrowed his list to include the Cardinals, Villanova, Boston College, Florida State and Providence, but the allure of playing for Hall of Famer Rick Pitino and such a storied program was too much.

“They just told me that I have the opportunity to play and play a lot, which would be perfect for me, just being able to come into a high level and showcase my talent,” he recently told SNY.tv of Louisville. “And the way I carry myself, they really appreciate.”

Pitino has coached his share of New York-area guards and Mitchell is originally from Elmsford, N.Y.

“It’s kind of surreal growing up, you hear about him a bunch and know to have an opportunity to play for him is kind of crazy,” Mitchell said.

The 6-foot-3 guard up offers from Louisville and Memphis back in July after going for 17 points in a win at the Reebok Classic Breakout, showing an ability to consistently hit the 3-ball.

“[Pitino] texted me and said that he enjoyed watching me play and that I had an offer from Louisville,” Mitchell told SNY.tv then.

“I felt real excited. Finally, everything’s coming full circle. I’m just playing my game, doing well and it’s all coming to light now.”
