PHILADELPHIA – Radnor (Pa.) Archbishop Carroll star Derrick Jones has only visited one school to this point, but the visit to the University of Connecticut late last month was a positive one.

“It was good,” the 6-foot-7 small forward said Wednesday evening at the Reebok Classic Breakout at Philadelphia University. “The coaches are just straight up front with everything and letting me know what I would be doing with everything. It’s great just to be able to be blessed with going to all these colleges.”

Connecticut was three-deep on the first night at Reebok, with head coach Kevin Ollie front and center for Jones in the final game of the evening. If Ollie’s recruitment of Jones is going to yield a positive result, he’s going to have to navigate through plenty of company.

Jones’ WE R1 AAU coach, Terrell Myers, told SNY.tv on Saturday that the plan is to visit Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana and Florida in August. All but Florida have offered according to Myers, while Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino and Wildcats head coach John Calipari were both present at the Gallagher Athletic Center on Wednesday.

“It’s a great honor just to have the coaches here and everything, but it’s not gonna change my game,” Jones said. “I’m gonna play my game. My game is what got the coaches here and watching me play right now.”

When and if all of those visits happen, Jones reiterated he does not have a timetable to make a decision or even trim the list of schools down.

“I don’t communicate with the coaches really,” Jones said. “They just talk to my dad (Derrick Jones Sr.), my mom, my AAU coach right now because I’m just focused on finishing my AAU season and just worrying about my last year of high school.”
