Tarin Smith SNYTarin Smith had a big night for himself on Thursday.

The uncommitted senior point guard from St. Anthony picked up a scholarship offer from Nebraska head coach Tim Miles and was watched by Notre Dame coach Mike Brey.

On the same night, the 6-foot-2 Smith went for 13 points as the Friars crushed Morristown-Beard, 63-30, in the second round of New Jersey Non-Public, North B playoffs.

“Nebraska offered him last night, so Coach Miles really liked him,” Naismith Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley, who won his 1,100th career game, told SNY.tv.

Notre Dame is in the market for another point guard in 2014 because they only have Demetrius Jackson on the roster. Brey watched Matt Farrell of Point Pleasant Beach on Wednesday, too.

“Mike was coming through the area,” Hurley said. “He had gone to see Matt Farrell and because he was here he wanted to stop and see Tarin because Tarin is one of the better unsigned senior guards so he stopped to see him, too.”

Smith is also being recruited by Providence, Creighton, Rhode Island, Lehigh, Delaware, Boston University, Boston College, Fordham and Florida International.

“I think he’s paid his dues,” Hurley said. “I think he can run a college team and it’s up to those guys to figure out at what level. By his recruiting, he’s at least being recruited by the Atlantic 10 level which is not too far off anything else. If teams from the Atlantic 10 are recruiting you then you’re close to being capable of playing in most leagues.”

Nebraska and Creighton both reached out last night to 2014 Kentucky F Jackson Davis and want to have on-homes. Notre Dame’s Mike Brey is expected to watch Davis play tonight (Friday) in Kentucky, his father confirmed to SNY.tv.
