Matt FarrellRutgers is the latest school to offer 2014 Point Pleasant Beach point guard Matt Farrell, head coach Nick Catania confirmed to SNY.tv Saturday.

The news was previously reported by Josh Newman of the Asbury Park Press.

Head coach Eddie Jordan offered Farrell after he went off for 25 points on 8-for-14 shooting as Point Pleasant Beach beat CBA, 49-41, for the Shore Conference title at Monmouth University.

Rutgers has four commits for 2014: Quality Education (N.C.) center Ibrahima Diallo, Bishop Loughlin guard Mike Williams, ASA College guard Bishop Daniels and Massanutten Military forward D.J. Foreman.

A onetime Boston College commit, Farrell is also being pursued by Fordham, St. Joe’s and Monmouth. Creighton has been involved and Maryland also called recently.

“Matt is one of the top point guards in the tri-state area,” Catania said. “He combines a high skillset with a great feel for the game. Matt is going to have an impact on whatever program he chooses because he makes the players around him better and he is a winner.”
