  • Ray SalnaveNEW YORK — If you didn’t know about Ray Salnave before last weekend, you should by now.

The 6-foot-1 Cardozo guard put up 20 points against Bob Hurley’s St. Anthony defense in the SNY Invitational, a game the Friars ended up pulling out, 67-61, before losing to Bishop Loughlin in Saturday’s championship game.

Cardozo ended up winning the consolation game, 76-52, over St. Mary’s of Long Island.

A bouncy guard who can get in the lane, finish at the rim and hit the long-ball, Salnave may well be the best sophomore in New York City.

Seton Hall-bound guard Isaiah Whitehead of Lincoln High School will learn on Wednesday evening whether he has been named a McDonald’s All-American.

The 24 selections for the game will be named at 6 p.m. EST on ESPNU.

“I’d like to be a McDonald’s All-American,” the 6-foot-4 Whitehead recently told SNY.tv. “It would be a big honor. I’ve tried to show this season and over the summer what I’m capable of. We’ll find out in a month or so, but I’ve worked hard to try to show that I should be a McDonald’s All-American.”

In case there was any doubt that Creighton’s Doug McDermott is the National Player of the Year, he added to his resume with a game-winning 3-pointer on Tuesday night against St. John’s.

McDermott notched a season-high 39 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left, as No. 20 Creighton moved back into first place in the Big East Conference with a 63-60 win over St. John’s.

At one point, McDermott had 30 points to St. John’s 28.

“McDermott should be the Player of the Year,” one veteran NBA scout in attendance told SNY.tv.

“Most effective offensive player in the country for being the main focus at the offensive end of the floor.”

ROSELLE, N.J. – With each subsequent Isaiah Briscoe performance, Roselle Catholic looks more and more like a top contender to repeat as New Jersey Tournament of Champions winners, and it’s easy to see why after their 77-59 victory Tuesday over Union .

Briscoe, the 6-foot-3 junior point guard, has been a revelation for his new team, Roselle Catholic, after sitting out the state-required 30-day period when transferring schools; Briscoe transferred from St. Benedict’s Prep this offseason.

Coach Dave Boff spoke again about the impact Briscoe has on the court whether he is scoring or not.

Carmelo Anthony and his wife are on the same page when it comes to his future plans.

And that could bode well for the Knicks going forward.

“That’s my wife, I support her,” Anthony said after going for 24 points and 9 rebounds as the Knicks beat the Celtics, 114-88, Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. “I support what she said. I don’t think she said anything wrong; it’s a good thing for her to say that….Go get the book, though.”
