St. Joe’s on Saturday landed a pledge from 6-foot-10 shot-blocking center Obi Romeo.

“I will b playing basketball at st Joseph university next 2014 as a hawk. To God b d glory????????,” he Tweeted.

“The [Atlantic 10] Conference is a great conference for him, and I think a lot of it had to do with coach [Phil] Martelli and his relationship with Obi,” his father, Rick Romeo, told CoBL. “I think it was just a good fit for him personally, the campus…all-around we think it’s a pretty good situation.”

A native of Nigeria, Romeo has a 7-foot-7 wingspan and is considered a shot-blocking, defensive-oriented big man who can help them going forward.

Romeo is the fourth St. Joe’s commit for 2014, joining New York City combo guard Shavar Newkirk, wing James Demery and combo forward Markell Lodge.
