John Mooney, a 6-foot-9 2016 power forward from Altamonte (FL) Lake Brantley High School , verbally committed to Florida Saturday.

Nike Team Florida Tweeted: “Huge congratulations to 2016 NTF Forward Johnny Mooney @jmoon32 on his commitment to Billy Donovan & the Florida Gators! NTFamily!”

Mooney averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds last season and was just the third freshman ever to play varsity at Lake Brantley.

“John has a special gift to shine and contribute to a Division I college,” his brother, Brendan, who committed to Spring Hill College, told the Orlando Sentinel.

Florida has two 2014 commits in point guard Chris Chiozza and two guard Brandone Francis, and one in 2015 in power forward Kevarrius Hayes.
