  • Huntington (West Va.) Prep coach Rob Fulford may be the only high school basketball coach in the country with players committed to both Missouri and West Virginia.

    “I think so,” he said.

In 6-foot-9 power forward Stefan Jankovic and 6-6 small forward Negus Webster-Chan, Huntington has two players who will sign with Missouri Thursday during an event at the school.

That same day, Elijah Macon, Huntington’s 6-9 power forward, will sign with West Virginia.

NEW YORK — When freshman guard Phil Greene  suits up for St. John’s Monday night in the season-opener against William & Mary, he is expected to be an integral part of a young team that will be without head coach Steve Lavin, who is recovering from prostate cancer.

The 6-foot-2, 178-pound Greene was a huge get for St. John’s, but his path to college was far from straight and direct.

He attended three high schools in two states — but they all had one thing in common.

Chicago native Loren Jackson coached Greene at each of his stops at Fenger High, Julian High and IMG Academies.

Kentucky coach John Calipari says he will give sophomore guard Stacey Poole more time to decide about transferring.

“You need time to make a decision about being in this program; I’m fine with that,” Calipari told the Lexington Herald-Leader. “It’s a big-time decision. … We all love the kid. It’s been hard. He wants to play. I don’t blame him.”

    He added:

“My whole thing with all these kids is, you want them to reach their dreams here. They’ve got to believe they can do that.

Could San Diego State be headed to the Big East?

A report out of San Diego says the school has reached out to fellow Mountain West Conference member Boise State about making the jump to the Big East together.

“I don’t have anything new to report,” SDSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk told the Union Tribune.

The Big East has not invited San Diego State and is instead focusing on bringing aboard Boise State, Air Force and Navy for football only and UCF, SMU and Houston for all sports.
