  • Dwight Hardy scored 28 points as St. John’s boosted its NCAA tournament resume with an 80-68 win Tuesday at Marquette.

The Red Storm (16-9, 8-5 Big East) have now won three games in six days after also beating No. 10 Connecticut and Cincinnati.

St. John’s D.J. Kennedy scored 15 points, Justin Brownlee added 11 and Justin Burrell added 10 points and 12 rebounds as the Red Storm overcame a seven-point deficit early in the second half.

The Red Storm improved to 4-3 on the road in Big East play and is 7-6 overall in games played away from home.

UNION, N.J. — St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn says Andre Drummond, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2012, will definitely remain at the Connecticut school through the 2011-12 season and will begin to focus on his list this spring.

“We’ll sit down with some people in the spring,” Quinn said Sunday at the PrimeTime Shootout at Kean University before Drummond scored 17 points in a 73-61 loss to St. Patrick. “We’ve told everybody we’ll talk to people in the spring.”

Pittsburgh junior guard Ashton Gibbs is physically fit enough to play Wednesday against South Florida, but is planning to return Saturday against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden instead.

“I’ll be back Saturday,” he said Tuesday.

Gibbs, who injured his left MCL after grabbing a rebound in a Feb. 5 win over Cincinnati, must still pass a doctor’s evaluation.

A team source confirmed that Gibbs will “definitely” be back on Saturday.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — Amar’e Stoudemire plans to play Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks despite a sore big toe but isn’t certain if he’ll play in the All-Star Game Sunday in Los Angeles.

“I’m not sure,” Stoudemire said Tuesday after practicing. “We’ll see how the toe feels after the game [Wednesday] and go from there.”

Stoudemire sat out Saturday’s 105-95 win over the Nets with the toe injury, and did not practice Monday.

Here are the players named to the Jordan Brand Classic April 16 at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.
