PITTSBURGH – Mike Rice and Austin Carroll were both born in Pittsburgh as the sons of basketball coaches.
Now, both are making their returns to the Steel City as Rutgers (5-2) meets Auburn (3-4) Saturday in the SEC/Big East Invitational. No. 3 Pitt (10-0) faces No. 11 Tennessee (6-0) in the second game of the doubleheader at the Consol Energy Center.
“I think just being around the game since you were younger helps you get knowledge and gain wealth,” Carroll, a freshman guard, said of being a coach’s son. “You kind of have a feel for the game and it helps. It helps to be around the game when you’re young.”
