NEW YORK – Rafael Nadal is no longer chasing history.

    He is making it.

Despite a two-hour rain delay, the 24-year-old Spaniard became just the seventh man in history to complete the career Grand Slam by bludgeoning his friend and sometimes doubles partner Novak Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to win his first United States Open title.

“I played my best in the U.S. Open at the most important moment,” Nadal said during his post-match interview as he was flanked by the trophy. “I’m very, very happy for that.”
