    Fairleigh Dickinson fired head coach Tom Green last week.

    The story was first reported by the New York Post.

    “For 26 years I was the coach of this team and an ambassador for this university,” Green told the newspaper. “I called this place home. For them to treat me this way shows a complete lack of respect for me as a person, as a coach and as a loyal employee.”

    He also told The Bergen Record: “This decision kills my career. To get fired in June of year 26 kills a career. I’d hoped to coach another five or six years before I even thought about retiring,” Green said. “It not only affects me, but I’ve got three assistant coaches and two of them have families. There are no Division I college basketball head coaching jobs available in June.”

    Cincinnati, Seton Hall, St. John's

    Some big news coming out of Seton Hall University this morning…

    Msgr. Robert Sheeran, the President of the University, announced he will step down in June 2010 after 15 years on the job.

    “As a priest, I try to listen to what God is saying… It becomes clearer, with a little bit of prayer,” he told The Star-Ledger. “It’s a deeply personal and genuinely spiritual direction.”

    Sheeran helped the University raise $153 million in 2007 and increased the school’s endowment five-fold, but the University’s athletic teams have floundered in recent years.

    Still, the men’s basketball team has the chance for a resurgence in the Big East next season, with

    Arizona, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John's, UMass, Wake Forest

    Arizona is closing in on landing a couple of talented sophomores from the New York area.

    Both Sidiki Johnson, a 6-8 sophomore from St. Raymond’s in the Bronx, and Angel Nunez, a 6-8 wing who could be headed to the Winchendon (Mass.) School, hold offers from Arizona and like the Pac-10 school very much.

    “As of right now he loves the school,” said Bernard Bowen, Johnson’s mentor. “He loves the coaching staff. As of right now, Arizona is the top on his list.”

    Johnson averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds last season at St. Ray’s, which reached the title game of the SNY Invitational before falling to Sherrod Wright and Mount Vernon.

    Americans in Europe, John Wall, Kentucky, Lance Stephenson, Sonny Vaccaro

    Jeremy Tyler will work out later this week in Los Angeles for Maccabi Haifa Heat of the Israeli pro league.

    “He’s working out and people are coming in to see him,” said grassroots basketball guru Sonny Vaccaro, who will broker Tyler’s pro deal. “The Israeli team Haifa are going to be in Thursday and Friday to interview Jeremy and work him out.”

    The 6-foot-11 Tyler initially committed to Louisville but then  announced he would skip his senior year of high school to play professionally for two years before entering the 2011 NBA Draft.

    “It may not be the best way to get to the NBA, but it’s the best way to get ready for the NBA,” Jeremy Tyler told Yahoo! Sports.
