Former Seton Hall forward Brandon Walters has decided to transfer to Siena.
The 6-foot-9 Walters must sit out a year per NCAA transfer regulations and will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2010.
“I chose Siena because I thought it would be a great growing atmosphere as a person,” Walters said Saturday by phone. “It’s the only team up there so they get a lot of exposure.
“I like the coaching staff. They’re very good people. I feel like I can trust them my next three years as a player. I just want to help the team win.”
Walters, out of Brooklyn Lincoln High School, also considered Drexel and Manhattan.
Last season, Walters averaged 1.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.3 minutes per game for the Pirates.
“It was an interesting experience. I learned a lot at Seton Hall,” he said. “I had great teammates so it was alright.”
The Saints have won two straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships. They lost to Louisville in the second round of last year’s NCAA tournament after beating Ohio State.
Head coach Fran McCaffery, 49, received an eight-year contract extension in April. He is 85-44 in four seasons with Siena.
