  • Henrys to Visit Kentucky This Weekend

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
Despite reports that Xavier and C.J. Henry will not visit Kentucky, the latest news is that the brothers will trip there this coming weekend.

“Now they’re going to visit Kentucky at the end of this week,” Carl Henry said early Monday afternoon. “My youngest son [Xavier] called me and said he wanted to go visit. It just happened thirty minutes ago.”

Carl had initially told reporters the boys would not visit and would announce Wednesday among Kansas, Kentucky and Memphis. Now that decision — and potentially Lance Stephenson’s as well — will be put off. Stephenson could end up at Kansas if the Henrys go to Kentucky or remain at Memphis; and he could go to St. John’s or Maryland if they pick Kansas.

“Both of them get out of school Friday,” Carl said. “They’re both going to go visit [Kentucky].”

Both Kentucky coach John Calipari and Kansas coach Bill Self flew to New York Saturday night to make their recruiting pitch to Xavier.

“I wasn’t there,” Carl said. “I was out of town myself. They just said it was the same recruiting stuff.”

Asked when the boys might decide, Carl said: “I couldn’t tell you, man. I”m so ready for it to be over with.”

Xavier Henry, the No. 3 recruit in the Class of 2009, told me last week he could still end up at Memphis even though he and his brother have secured their releases.

“It depends on if my brother can get out of his thing and go transfer and play his first year,” Xavier said. “If he can’t then I might still play with him at Memphis. I don’t know yet.”

C.J., a walk-on at Memphis, would need to transfer to either Kansas or Kentucky and then appeal the NCAA for a waiver to allow him to play immediately. Yet there’s no guarantee that will happen. Such waivers are only granted in extreme circumstances, such as when a family member is dying.

“It’ll take time,” Henry said. “I don’t know. It could be quick. It could take a long time. It’s just the NCAA, whatever they decide.”

    • The rumor was that Self told them if they visited Kentucky he’d pull X’s offer- this has obviously gone on long enough. If that’s true we can expect a Lance presser this week sometime?

    • The latest rumor from KU was that Self told Carl that if they took a trip to Kentucky KU was pulling the scholarship offer. If true we should expect something from Lance this week?

    • This is getting ridiculous. JUST SIGN LANCE STEPHENSON!!!! I am sick of the Henry’s. I cant believe that this has gone on this long. Just pick a damn school!

    • Boy, you Jawhawk fans sure are rude and impatient. You act like it’s the fault that the Henry’s are reconsidering their school. They were committed and the coach they committed to left, so God forbid they look for a new school. If anyone has been overly dramatic, it’s Stephenson. I hope you all end up without Stephenson or the Henry’s.

    • To be fair, homer, it’s pretty unprecedented for a coach that left a school to try and bring his LOI-signed recruits with him. Even Bob Huggins didn’t do this. Kansas fans probably assumed Xavier was theirs when Calipari announced he was leaving Memphis. Now that it looks like they’re getting Lance instead (who’s the better player anyway) they’re a little confused.

    • The truth is this: Kansas fans have been dealing with all of this for like 4 years now. It was really bad last summer, but X picked Memphis to play with his brother. Then there father comes out and starts saying that X wants to play at Kansas etc etc. Now Kentucky is back in it?

X wants to play at Kansas
CJ wants to play for Cal
X wants to play with CJ
CJ gets what he wants and they both go to Kentucky

Hopefully all of this BS has made Lance re-consider his first choice.

    • I meant hopefully it has NOT made Lance reconisider his first choice.

      Kansas wants Lance!

    • Maybe Lance has legitimate reason to not want to play with the Henrys. Just a thought.

    • @Adam:
I’m kind of curious how this whole circus is affecting Lance. He’s been quite quiet since he announced he was holding off on his decision. Is he embarrassed that Self seems to want Xavier over him (whether or not that’s true)? Does he seem like the same Lance you’ve covered for the past 5 years? I like the quiet Lance, just curious if you have any insight into what the real prize of this situation is thinking.

    • Oh, Homer. Dont be so dramatic little guy. Wishful thinking that we wont end up with neither, but that is not going to happen.

Dont give me this crap about…..”The kid needs time to pick a school.” I’m fine with that. But, dont say one second you are not going to visit, then the next minute you are. Then the Dad says that they wont to go to KU, then the players say they want to play for Calipari…blah blah blah. If you dont know what you are going to do, keep your mouth shut and look at all your options. Dont keep blabbering nonsense.

      • And your reaction proves my point. You sound like a wining Boston fans. These kids aren’t doing anything wrong. I hope they just keep playing you and making you cry and whine. “Wah, wah. Just make a decision so I can go write about it on my blog!”

Get a life, due. Talk about drama, you’re the queen in that department lil’ guy.

    • Big Ben

“The rumor was that Self told them if they visited Kentucky he’d pull X’s offer- this has obviously gone on long enough. If that’s true we can expect a Lance presser this week sometime?”

      Sources and/or website link?

Does anyone know why CJ who originally commited to KU before being drafted in Baseball ended up at Memphis to begin with?

I honestley think they is something deeper at work here, there really is no reason why the would be so flakey on this issue….ESPECIALLY with the ties and very strong ties to Kansas the family has

All this being said, I would love to have either….put KU fans make this clear…….A chance for a second title in three years is no dependent on whether either Lance or the Henry’s come to KU!!!!!

    • Jayhawkfan11 all those things are assumptions made by media and people like you.

      It’s 4/20 chill brah!

    • Well, if the story is true about Self pulling X’s scholarship, (which I doubt is the truth), and Lance is still considering KU, it’s pretty simple then “Welcome to Kansas Lance”!!! I’m good with that. I said from the beginning that KU should have just signed Lance. It’s true that KU would be much better with either one, but even if neither come to KU, they’ll still be tough team. I know if I’m a one & done, and KU wanted me to fill the only spot in which the team as a whole is lacking, the decision is the easiest decision I’d ever have to make. You get a top notch facility, a top notch program, all the publicity you want, a great chance to get a National Championship Ring, and a coach of the year to boot!

    • Or he could go to Kentucky and get the same thing @ Dale.

      • gohard, u are completely out of touch. smoking too many j’s on 4/20 i see.

    • And how is that, wone? Am I wrong in that UK is a top notch program and has top notch facilities, and a great new head coach?

    • Gohard,
You are wrong because as of late UK is only a top notch program based on repuatation definatly not winning. So compared to KU as of right now they are below them, KU is a much better program. Also Cal is a good coach not a great coach, he has dominated lesser conferences with lesser competition. He has made only 3 deep runs in his coaching career, with 0 National Titles. Plus don’t be suprised if that now that Cal is in a big time conference if the NCAA doesn’t watch him a little closer with his relationship with William Wesley, and his shady recruiting tactics and connections.

    • Here’s the comparison for you.

      UK wins BTW.

The practice facilities are both fantastic. — Draw

Allen Fieldhouse vs. Rupp Arena — No Contest – Rupp wins. Greater Capacity, newer, Higher % of seats filled…

A great chance to get a ring. — Edge to Kansas

They have a very good core coming back and good recruits as well. Although…Self’s teams have been known to choke many times, and Cal’s boys choked the game away last year…but UK could have a great core coming back too if Meeks and Patterson return. You could 4 NBA players on the starting line up — just like Kansas…

Publicity — NO CONTEST — UK wins.

UK firing Gillispie dominated the headlines during the Final Four. More recently, The Jordan Brand Classic was basically a UK infomercial with Jimmy Dykes playing the part of Billy Mays..

City — Lexington KY kills Lawrence, KS. Seriously have you been to Lawrence? It’s boring!!! and Lexington is no prize either.

So, overall UK wins… Better overall facilities, More successful program over history, more Pub, and better city.

Thanks for playing Jayhawks and Wildcats…

A Hoosier has spoken the truth.

      • Rupp better than Allen Fieldhouse??? I don’t think so! There is no better place to place college basketball than the Fieldhouse. Both programs are top notch, but when it comes to home courts Allen is the best in the country.

        • RockChalk,

You’re a KU fan right? Now I don’t want to assume that you haven’t been to Rupp — so have you?

I’ve been to both. Rupp has about 23-24000 fans at games against the worst opponents — like Stony Brook for instance. And because of that, it’s loud as hell.

In fact, ESPN game day had its the loudest crowd ever at Rupp…

Allen FieldHouse is great but it’s real old and that’s not a good thing when talking basketball arenas…

IN other words, FieldHouse is no Wrigley Field or Fenway Park.

          • Actually ESPN Gameday has said that Allen Fieldhouse is one of the loudest as well because of how small it is and how many people they are able to get in there. Rupp was not filled for every game this year or even last you are dreaming if you think that is the case. I have been to Rupp and to me it was just another typical basketball arena nothing speacial about it.

        • you must be joking rockchalk

          1. Rupp can hold more people
          2. Rupp has waaay more history ( 7 banners in the rafters)
          3. Rupp has THE best atmosphere in all of college basketball
they basically sell out every home game

this just shows how much us kentucky fans care about our program
Im not trying to take anything away from kansas but im just pointing out clear facts

I really hope next years championship game is UK vs Kansas how great would that be to watch the cats take home number 8 against the gayhawks ….i mean jayhawks

          • You are a delusional UK fan to think that you have a chance at the National Championship game. Rupp may have 7 banners hanging from the rafters doesn’t the point is that Rupp is new with no history, its not the old Rupp. UK’s atmosphere is not any better than KU, Duke, or UNC. If anything UK would be behind those 3 because they have not been good plain and simple.

          • RUPP is new with no history…

            KUfanNmemphis…

            you’re a real yokel aren’t you?

Rupp was built 1976…The Wildcats have won 3 titles since then…78, 96,98 and were in the 1997 finals…

Since then…KU has 2 championships — 1988 and last year.

So, Rupp has plenty of history.

And before you call me a delusional UK fan…know that I don’t believe UK will win the title next year…

I’ll be happy if UK gets to the 2nd round…the sweet 16 would be great…which is all that KU got to this year…

BTW, Sherron Collins is no Mario Chalmers or Jodie Meeks for that matter…

          • I wasn’t saying you were delusional I was talking about cats. Oh and Collins is not Mario Chalmers you are right, but he was the spark plug that got KU back into the National Title Game. You rember the lay up, steal and 3 pointer right?

Meeks had one good year, and along with Patterson they got to the NIT, Collins finally got his chance, had a good year and along with Aldrich they made it to the Sweet 16. Point is KU is better, have been better for a while they will go further in the tourny this year.

      • Sorry for the rambling, but here goes. I disagree about your comparison of Rupp and Allen and about Lawrence and Lexington.

This is your opinion….albeit an unsupported one.

        Facilities – Draw

I agree….you can’t really get any better than these two schools basketball facilities.

Odds of a Championship – You’re right on a chance to get a ring, but you’re also right that they could have a quality team returning as well.

Publicity – Publicity comes and goes, but almost every one of our Big 12 games was played nationally….I couldn’t catch but like 3 UK games. So a coaching change that is in the papers for a month or being seen nationally every game? You pick it.

City/Social Life – KU and Lawrence has been in the top 20 party schools since the middle of the 1980’s, getting up to as high as 2nd (according to Princeton Review, Playboy, and College Humor). We actually took 2007 off of the Princeton Review’s but who gives a damn. So….as for college town and being boring–you’ve got nothing man. Education wise, we make Princeton’s “Best Value List” nearly every year. By the way, you go/went to OU and have the nerve talking down on Lawrence? Norman is fun on a gameday, but not on a Tuesday….get my drift?

Allen Fieldhouse vs. Rupp Arena – This one actually made me laugh. I’ll just give you every link to voted top arenas by the press that I could find….Rupp made it in the top five in ONE ARTICLE I COULD FIND….not hardly ever listed in the top 10. Allen has something to the tune of 175 straight sell-outs, and didn’t sell out right after 9/11….so go figure. Capacity doesn’t really matter that much as long as its “big enough” in my opinion. Rupp has club seats and corporate boxes….does that make it better? Nobody wants to watch basketball in the Superdome. Percentage of filled seats argument is laughable with the figures I just gave you. “They have the largest number of fans closest to the floor of any arena in the country.. Again, don’t try to talk too much to the person sitting next to you.” -Collegehoops.net

Enjoy the links, because your opinions aren’t shared by hardly anybody else.

      • Just because its bigger does not make it better….give me a break. Just because Allen Fieldhouse is “old” doesn’t mean anything. I have been to Rupp and the atmosphere in my honest opinion does not compare.

        • Apologies to the UK-KU crowd, but hands down, Cameron Indoor Stadium has the best atmosphere for basketball. It’s not even close. And I’m no Duke fan.

    • Gohard,

You’re using — long runs in the tournament against Cal…

      You must be joking right…

Bucknell and Bradley — do those teams come to mind?

Seriously that’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard from a Jayhawk fan.

    • Jreeves,

Practice Facilities: DRAW both are very nice

Allen Fieldhouse vs Rupp Arena: Allen Fieldhouse – historic, and the % of seats filled is in KU’s favor, for one they have been good over the last 5 years and they have fewer seats to fill.

Best Chance at a Ring: without question KU

KU has the best core of players coming back for, Collins & Alrich are both better than Meeks and Patterson. Ask yourself if you don’t believe me, where did KU play in the postseason and where did UK? Plus Kentucky will be learning a whole new system so even if Meeks and Patterson come back they will be learning too. Bill Selfs teams have lost in the first rd. to Bucknell and Bradley, however the lost to Bucknell came when he was coaching players that were left over from Roy Williams, and the lose to Bradley came when the Hawks were young, much like UK will be next year. Cal’s teams have choked in the past as well, infact Cal actually choked himself in the National Chamionship.

City: well Lawrence is close to KC and Lexington is in the middle of nowhere. Not much to do in either place, I believe this is a DRAW.

Publicity: UK has been in the news only because they hired a new coach, KU has been in the news when talking about favorites to win next years National Championship. Edge goes to UK for more news coverage, however I would rather be in the news for being favorits to win the title.

Overall: Kansas, overall facilities are about equal, better team, and better coach, all the other stuff doesn’t matter.

      • KUfanNmemphis…

you’re a goon if you think Allen Fieldhouse is better than Rupp…

        http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Rupp_Arena

UK has led NCAAB attendance in 12 out of the last 13 seasons…

UK is in the news because they’re basketball royalty — just like KU. However of all the top programs of all time, UNC, UK, Duke, Kansas, UCLA…

Kansas and UCLA get the least amount of pub by far. UCLA b/c the Lakers are the team for that town.

BTW, if you haven’t heard yet ESPN will now show all SEC basketball games…not that that changes much. CBS shows plenty of UK games…b/c UK has the most rabid fans…hands down.

So that means even more pub for UK…

The more pub the better…b/c the top recruits know what it’s all about…and when you get the top recruits…everything will happen for UK.

No, Lexington isn’t the middle of nowhere…it has a population of over 450,000 — in a listing of largest cities of the US – Lexington is 109. Louisville which is 60 miles away is 41st.

Kansas City is a P-O-S town, very similar to Memphis…and is ranked 29th in the ranking. But Lawrence is 348th on the list.

        AGAIN… UK wins…

Better facilities, better program overall, more fan support.

I’ll still give you — Self is a better coach than Cal but not by far. Cal got to the title game with MEMPHIS — say it again with me — MEMPHIS. The team had only made a Final Four once before…He brought them up from nothing to being a title contender.

Now he’s at UK…once Self got to KU he took his game to the next level and he won a championship after a few years. I feel nothing less will happen with Cal…

        • I’ve been to both and Rupp has nothing on AFH. Also, Lawrence is by far the better college town (one of the best I’ve seen) and I’m from Boston so I don’t have a dog in this fight. KU also has the better fans from what I can tell. The only thing UK has going for it is their coach cheats in recruiting and then rolls the ball out and lets the players do what they want. UK traded down when they went from Tubby to Gillispie and then traded down again when they went Gillispie to Calipari.

          • I must have missed Rupp on John Feinstein’s Top 10 places to watch college basketball.

            He has Allen Fieldhouse #1.
            http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/10great/2008-01-17-10-great_N.htm

            Larry Brown said:
“I tell everybody there’s not a place around — I know Chapel Hill, Pauley Pavilion, Cameron, you name it. They are pretty special, but there’s nothing like this,” Brown said.

“All the guys who scout, I always tell them, ‘You’ll never have an experience like Allen Fieldhouse.’ This is how a college fieldhouse is supposed to be.”
            http://www2.kusports.com/news/2008/feb/15/his_element/?mens_basketball

With all due respect to fans at Duke, UCLA, New Mexico and other programs with hallowed basketball arenas, my favorite venue is Allen Fieldhouse, home of the Kansas Jayhawks since its doors opened in 1955.

Allen Fieldhouse isn’t much to look at from outside, but the inside turns magical on game day, perhaps with a ghost or two (“Beware of the Phog”) hovering overhead to guide errant KU jump shots into the basket.
            http://blogs.denverpost.com/sports/2008/02/14/beware-of-the-phog

        • Better overall program? Most ESPN (since you like to refer to them) believe that UK is not that program it once was, and hasn’t been for awhile. They haven’t been a winner for awhile. The difference between Rupp and Allen Fieldhouse is 4,000 not much considering how “small” Lawrence is. Cal did take Memphis to the National Title Game but its not like he did it overnight, and had the number 1 overall NBA player had upper classmen who new the system. KU’s facilities are not at all inferior to UK’s, people don’t look forward to playing at Rupp, ESPN doesn’t look at Rupp as one of the best basketball arena’s. My point is that UK is not any better the KU. KU fans are just as rabid as UK fans are, and are not outnumbered by much. UK was and may once again return to a great program but right now they are not.

          • a few things that HAVEN’T been considered:

Rupp is already arguably the nastiest environment in college basketball. And UK will be building a new arena that will put everything else in college basketball to shame.

Bigger than that is the fact that the UK fan base travels better than any other in college sports. That’s ALL sports. I live near Tampa, FL so I was able to easily attend the SEC Tournament this year. I went with a couple of my friends who are Gator fans. We went to the first session on day one and watched UK vs. Ole Miss and Miss St vs. UGA. There were 11,000 fans total in attendance for those two games. Our conservative estimate is that 9,000 of them were Kentucky fans. We got into a discussion in between the games about where the SEC Tourney will be the next few years. My friend looked at me and said “Well judging by what I’ve seen so far, I would say they should have it wherever Kentucky wants it.”

As to the idea that the Kentucky program is down, that is just a joke. Tubby Smith couldn’t replicate Rick Pitino’s success, but he consistently had Kentucky getting high seeds. #1 seeds back to back seasons is 02-03 and 03-04, # 2 seeds in 00-01 and 04-05, and # 4 seed in 01-02. And that is ignoring Tubby’s first few seasons in which he won a national championship, and reached another Elite 8. Tubby had two down season’s, and then Billy Gillispie never had a chance to get his feet under him before he ticked off the wrong people. But Kentucky has been to the Elite 8 within the past 5 seasons. If that is considered down for Kentucky (and it definitely is) that just shows how highly regarded the program is in the first place.

          • I must have missed Rupp on John Feinstein’s Top 10 places to watch college basketball.

These are the first 6 links on google. Bigger isn’t better. You guys arguing for Rupp are seriously not on the same page with the entire rest of the country….pretty usual for UK fans, actually.

          • Come on Kansas fans back your arguments up with links and such. I am a fan of neither and I’ve been to both and like always Kentucky fans think they are the only show in town. It is not even close, I’m sorry Kentucky fans. Allen Fieldhouse is an american gem, plain and simple. It is the first college hoops arena on ESPN’s top 100 sports venues of all time.

            http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/080919/venues/11-100

Rupp didn’t make the top 100. If you don’t support Kentucky and can view it as a non-biased college hoops fan, Allen Fieldhouse blows Rupp out of the water.

        • Courtesy of Relic:

What a Joke. Rupp is never gonna be considered better than AFH or Cameron Indoor. Size doesn’t mean crap and either does age when considering college sports. Duke has a 9000 cap and is ridiculous. In your logic, Fed Ex forum is better than Rupp since it is bigger and newer. Hate to think what will happen when Louisville finishes their new arena.

Carl just canceled the visit. the drama continues

    • Saying Rupp is better than AFH is simply ridiculous. Any legitimate source will say that AFH is one of the top 5 places to watch college basketball, if not the best. Rupp isn’t even close. Take a gander….

    • Unfortunately wonedad…transworldnews.com picked up that story very late. It was originally posted on jayhawkslant.com this morning. Then early this afternoon it came out that the Henry’s would visit UK contrary to earlier reports. So the story on Zagsblog is more recent info than the info in that link.

    • You guys are delusional about Rupp. Best place in College basketball is a huge joke. Let’s say you are better than the Field house. No way you guys are better than Cameron Indoor. Your logic of newer and bigger means Memphis has a better Arena then Rupp. BTW AFH and Cameron Indoor were in both ESPN and Fox Sports top 10 arenas.

      No UK. UNC#1,Duke#5, KU#6

I doubt EA sports, SI.com, Foxsports, USA today, CNN, and ESPN are wrong.

    • If Rupp Arena is so great why would they want a new arena???? KU could build a brand spanking new arena with 20+ thousand seats and fill it every game but why would they want to?? Allen Fieldhouse has the best atmosphere in college basketball, building a new arena would screw that up. If you think Allen is not like Fenway Park or Wrigley field then you have never been there or you are just an idiot.

    • What a Joke.

    • Canceled, back on, canceled back on yeesh. Didn’t someone recently sign a LOI with UK without even visiting?

    • those are some well people from ESPN so just thought of sharing. Enjoy and this drama needs to end. Good luck to everyone’s team

    • The interview everyone is

    • The interview everyone is quoting as saying the visit is canceled…doesn’t at all say the visit is canceled.

‘Asked if they had any plans to make a visit to UK this weekend, as their father had suggested earlier on Monday, C.J. said: “I haven’t really talked to him about that. I don’t think there are any plans to do that. We might. I don’t know. I guess we need to talk about it.’

That’s a quote. So, Xavier told his dad they’re going to visit, but CJ says tonight that he doesn’t know if they are…

Doesn’t seem to be decided either way. To be sure, it doesn’t sound like the two guys have spoke to one another…

That family needs to get together, and have a pow-wow.

After all this I wouldn’t doubt X ends up going to Kansas, and CJ staying at Memphis.

For all you Phog Allen Fieldhouse lovers…

Know this: UK leads the NCAA in attendance in good and bad times for the program.

Also, the most ever attendance for a single game was the Basketbowl — around 78000 went to Ford Field.

They had Basketbowl 2 this year, with UNC vs. MSU — the attendance record was not broken.

      • Kansas’ average is capacity = consecutive sell-outs.

Kentucky’s average is below Rupp capacity.

        http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/m_basketball_RB/2009/Attendance.pdf

        • Yup, KU is at 129 consecutive sell outs after last season.

        • RUPP’s average attendance — is about 5000 more fans than Allen’s capacity…

          • Are you guys really still having this argument? If it’s really going to continue, now would be an opportune time to make an actual point.

Xavier Henry, the nation’s top high school shooting guard, has cancelled a visit to Kentucky and is close to making a college decision, according to reports by JayhawkSlant.com.

Henry and his brother C.J. are near a decision on their college choice, according to Carl Henry, their father. “Xavier and C.J. have decided not to visit Kentucky,” said Carl Henry. “They are not going to take the trip. I spoke to the both of them and they are done taking visits. Xavier and C.J. have told me they plan to announce a final decision in two days.

“I really have no idea where they are leaning,” he added. “Those two, they changes their mind so much. If they didn’t change their mind so much, I might have a better idea. What I do know is that no visit to Kentucky is going to happen. They plan to make let everybody know in two days.”

      • Old news chronic.

        The latest:

C.J. Henry, who hadn’t been heard from publicly the past couple of weeks during the Henry brothers’ recruiting saga, spoke to Kentucky.rivals.com on Monday night.

He had the last word on a day in which there were conflicting reports from his dad, Carl, on whether basketball prospects C.J. and Xavier Henry would be making a trip to Kentucky this week in advance of their choosing either Kansas University, Kentucky or Memphis.

“I don’t think there are any plans to do that,” C.J. Henry said, asked by Kentucky.rivals.com about a possible trip to Lexington. “We might. I don’t know. I guess we need to talk about it.”

Former KU player Carl Henry told both the Journal-World and Kansas.rivals.com in separate interviews Monday morning that his sons told him no trip to Kentucky would be made this week.

Two hours later, Carl told Zagsblog.net that a trip to Kentucky indeed would be on tap.

“They told me they want to get it (recruiting) over with and really don’t need to make a visit to Kentucky,” Carl told the J-W. “They know the styles of play of both coaches and will make a decision without making any more visits. That’s what they told me.”

Later, Carl told Zagsblog that Xavier called, and his youngest son told dad he definitely wanted to visit Kentucky.
On Monday night, C.J. Henry, who was a 6-foot-3, non-scholarship, red-shirt guard this year on Memphis’ basketball team, indicated “nothing has changed. It’s still Memphis, Kentucky, Kansas. All I know is that wherever it is, we just want to play together.”

That may be able to happen only at Memphis.

C.J., unless he wins an appeal, will have to sit out a season if he transfers to either KU or Kentucky. Xavier, a 6-6 guard from Oklahoma City’s Putnam City High School, insists he will only play one year of college basketball prior to entering the NBA Draft.

“Mainly we’re just looking for a place to play basketball and get a good education,” C.J. Henry told Kentucky.rivals.com. “I think we could probably do that at any of these schools.”

C.J. told the Web site it was a five-hour drive from his hometown of Oklahoma City to Lawrence, seven hours to Memphis and 14 hours to Kentucky.

“That won’t be the main factor, though. The main thing is being able to get the job done and get to the next level,” C.J. said, not giving the Web site a date for his decision.
        http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2009/apr/21/henrys-will-visit-uk-unless-they-dont/

    • The bottom line is that both schools are going to give each player the exposure they are looking for prior to entering the draft. What you guys should really be discussing is the systems in place for each team. The dribble drive offense of Kentucky can really highlight the abilities of a slasher (tends to be the offense of choice for most young ball hogging gaurds these days) where as the Kansas offensive system incorporates a more traditional style allowing for players to develop an all around game. For the purposes of a one and done star, I think that the Calipari offense becomes very attractive because it allows quick and talented gaurds the ability to see a lot of the ball and put up big numbers quickly which can than increase thier draft number. At Kansas you will see the slow (yet effective development) of a player like Tyshawn Taylor who already made great strides his freshman year and will continue to develop a great all around game. With that said, even though Lance would prob put up bigger numbers at a Maryland/St Johns style program, it would prob be in his better interest to go to a Kansas where he can rely on other players more and not have to shoulder all the responsibility that he did at Lincoln against the good teams (Even if Henry goes there as well). NBA scouts know how good both of these guys are and even if they are not the only one in the spotlight, an all around player (Such as a Brian Westbrook) still gets the attention of the scouts.

    • Correction – Meant to say Russell Westbrook in the previous post.
