Nebraska has landed a commitment from top-25 forward Dawson Battie, On3 first reported on Monday.

Battie, a 6-foot-8 forward from Texas, chose the Cornhuskers over Stanford, Baylor and Kansas, among others.

The St. Mark’s (TX) senior took an official visit to Nebraska this past weekend and despite having four more official visits left, decided to commit to the Cornhuskers on Monday.

The top-25 is looking to continue his family legacy in college basketball, as he’ll be the fourth member of his family to play high-level Division I basketball.

Battie’s family history in basketball includes his older brother Dillon, who’s a forward at Wichita State, his father Derrick, who played at Temple and his uncle Tony, who played at Texas Tech and was selected with the No. 5 pick in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.

The best trait of Battie is his aggressive nature on the glass on both sides of the floor, averaging nearly ten rebounds per game on the Pro16 circuit this past summer. Though he’s been an inconsistent outside scorer, Battie was a force in the post this summer and was at his best on the block with his back to the basket.

Battie is Fred Hoiberg’s second commit in the class of 2027 as the Nebraska head coach continues to reshape a program that hadn’t won an NCAA Tournament game prior to 2026. The Cornhuskers have also landed four-star forward Ty Schlagel.

He’s rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and ranked as the No. 25 overall prospect in the country.
