Four-star forward Triston Hawthorne is headed to Houston, he announced on a YouTube live.
A 6-foot-7 senior at South Jones HS (MS), Hawthorne chose Kelvin Sampson’s Cougars over LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Harvard
Ranked as the top player in Mississippi, Hawthorne will now head to one of the most hard-nosed programs in the country.
“I chose Houston because of the communication and transparency,” Hawthorne said on YouTube live. “From day one, they focused on building a strong relationship with me. They showed me exactly how to fit into their system. They showed me that they can really elevate my game to another level. Not only on the court, but off the court and more so as a man.”
Hawthorne boasts an incredible 7-foot-2 wingspan and is a tenacious defender, fitting the build of many different forward to play for Sampson at Houston.
Last season, Hawthorne averaged a double-double for South Jones, tallying 10.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and an astounding 6.2 blocks per game.
Hawthorne is Houston’s fourth high-school commit in the class of 2027, joining a class that’s ranked No. 1 in the country.
He joins a recruiting class that already consists of four-star guard Darrell Davis, four-star guard Oneal Delancy and four-star center Beau Daniels.
Hawthorne is also rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 90 overall prospect in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports.
