BYU has officially signed Lithuanian guard Dovydas Buika to his National Letter of Intent, per release.
Buika, a 6-foot-7 guard, played for Jonava Hipocredit of the Lithuanian Basketball League during the 2025-26 season.
“We’re super excited to welcome Dovydas to the BYU family,” BYU head coach Kevin Young said in the release. “He brings a lot of versatility to our back court with the ability to play multiple positions. He has played for a great club in his home country of Lithuania and has learned how to play the game the right way because of it. He’s got great positional size and a competitive edge to him that will fit in well with our group. We look forward to getting him on campus and getting to work.”
In 21 appearances for Jonava this season, Buika averaged 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game his club.
Appearing in the 2025 FIBA U18 Eurobasket for Lithuania, the 6-foot-7 guard tallied 12.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, shooting 45.8% from the field last summer.
“We have been tracking Dovydas him for a few years and coming from Zalgiris, there are few clubs in Europe when a guy comes out of that system you know they are ready for high-level basketball and Zalgiris are one of those places,” associated head coach Tim Fanning said. “He was a team captain of some very successful teams there. We love his versatility. He can play multiple guard spots. Character wise, he’s a great fit at BYU.”
Notably, he made his professional debut for respected Lithuanian club Žalgiris Kaunas in 2024 and was apart of the club’s NextGen EuroLeague title in 2025, recording 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game at the tournament’s finals in Abu Dhabi.
