UCLA coach Steve Alford watched Jaylen Brown this week at the Les Schwab Invitational in Portland, Ore., and the visit made an impression on the 6-foot-7 wing from Marietta (GA) Wheeler.
“Coach Steve is a great coach,” Brown told OregonLive.com. “I know they are in busy seasons with their guys. For a head coach to come out, it means a lot. I haven’t seen too many head coaches come out. I’ve seen Roy Williams (North Carolina), Steve Alford (UCLA), Mark Fox (Georgia), Brian Gregory (Georgia Tech), that’s about it though.”
Brown is also considering Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan and has said he plans to visit North Carolina and Michigan going forward.
But UCLA has definitely put in work.
“UCLA’s in the top seven. They’ve been in there for awhile,” he explained. “I have a great relationship, took two visits – one in the summer, one in the fall – and I have a good relationship with Coach Alford and the assistant coaches there as well.”
He added: “Greatness is personified at UCLA.”It has a lot of great history and a lot of expectations. It’s a good fit.”
