Providence has secured arguably the best big man the Class of 2027 has to offer.
Five-star prospect Lewis Uvwo will play for the Friars next season, he announced on CBS Sports HQ on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-11 center chose Providence over offers from Kentucky, Baylor and Cal.
It all started when I took the visit to the campus, you know Providence is a big-small place,” Uvwo said about his decision to go to Providence. “When I say that, it’s like a small place in terms of, you can get to a lot of places really fast, and its a big place in terms of the fans. They showed me a lot of love when I went on my visit and I just knew right there, maybe next season if I am going to be in Providence they are going to show our team a lot of love and support and I want to be a part of that.”
“I’m coming home, Friartown.”
Uvwo is the No. 1 ranked center in the Class of 2027, according to 247Sports, and the No. 7 ranked player overall.
“His greatest strengths show up where the game is most physical: on the glass, at the rim, and around the basket,” ESPN’s Paul Biancardi told ZAGSBLOG.
“He rebounds with purpose, using his massive 6’11” frame, 7’7” wingspan, and 9’3” standing reach.
“On defense, his shot-blocking is elite and serves as a defensive anchor.
“He scores best on post-ups, second-chance putbacks, and lobs or drop-off passes.”
This marks a big time recruit for head coach Bryan Hodgson, who will add Uvwo as the first member of its 2027 Class. Friartown is off to a major start in its 2027-28 campaign.
