Antonio Blakeney has continued to turn heads. Not only in his home state of Florida, but Nationally.
The 16th ranked player in the class of 2015 by ESPN, Blakeney, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound shooting guard out of Oak Ridge (Fla.) has recently reeled in offers from North Carolina and Southern California, but doesn’t currently have any favorites.
“I’m trying to look at relationships right now,” Blakeney told SNY.tv. “I’m looking at the relationships I have with all of the coaches, as well as which players will be there when I get there. I’m definitely looking at the school that fits me the best, as well as the atmosphere at the program.”
Iona senior guard Sean Armand isn’t shy about expressing his plans for the Gaels’ Tuesday night tilt at No. 2 Kansas.
“Yes, I’m going into the game expecting to win, just like every other game we play,” the Brooklyn native told SNY.tv Monday.
You might wonder how Iona, a two-time NCAA Tournament qualifier out of the MAAC, came to play Kansas, a perennial Final Four contender featuring the projected No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft in Andrew Wiggins.
The answer is that Iona President Dr. Joseph E. Nyre is an alumnus of Kansas who did his graduate work there.
Justise Winslow will announce his choice on Thursday at 4:30 ET, Houston St. John’s athletic director Vince Arduini confirmed to SNY.tv.
“He’s going to make his choice tomorrow at 3:30 [CT],” Arduini said by phone. “It’s just going to be a simple deal here at school. We are not promoting any sort of national TV exposure.”
Because today (Wednesday) is the last day of the NCAA early signing period, Arduini said it was possible Winslow could send in his NLI on Wednesday and still announce Thursday.
Winslow is down to Arizona, Duke, Florida, UCLA and Texas A&M.
UCLA assistant David Grace watched Winslow play Tuesday when St. John’s visited Houston Westside. Florida also had its staff in last week to see Winslow. Winslow has also visited Texas A&M on several occasions.
