  • NEW YORK — With their wins at the U.S. Open, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal are on the brink of history and could pass significant all-time records in 2014.

Serena now has 17 career Grand Slam singles titles and could tie Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova for fourth all-time with 18 Majors by winning the Australian Open in January. Next up would be Helen Wills Moody, whose 19 Majors are good for third place behind Margaret Court (24) and Steffi Graf (22).

Nadal, meantime, won his 13th Major on Monday with his four-set win over Novak Djokovic and could tie Pete Sampras at 14 for second all-time by winning the Australian.

Bryant McIntosh is the latest player to commit to new Northwestern coach Chris Collins, having pulled the trigger on Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound three-star point guard from Greenburg (IN) said he also considered Purdue, Iowa, Xavier, Dayton, West Virginia and Vanderbilt. He had previously decommitted from Indiana State.

“I picked Northwestern because it was just the right fit for me,” he told SNY.tv. “The opportunities there were perfect for me in both school and basketball.

“Coach Collins and the rest of his staff did an excellent job of getting me to feel comfortable on my visit to campus and just building that relationship with them.”

St. John’s and SMU have officially entered the Isaiah Briscoe Sweepstakes.

The Johnnies recently offered the 2015 Roselle (N.J.) Catholic guard, as did SMU.

“Well, (St. John’s) is a great school,” Isaiah told SNY.tv. “They play at the Garden which is a great place to play. And the coaching staff is doing a great job recruiting.”

George Briscoe, Isaiah’s father, also said he considered Steve Lavin of St. John’s and Larry Brown of SMU among the top college coaches.

St. John’s is expected to watch Briscoe work out Monday at RC, as are coaches from Rutgers, Seton Hall and Villanova.
